Prior nod not needed for laying trap to nab corrupt officers: SC

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and J K Maheshwari said the court must draw a delicate balance between liberty of an individual and the need for a fair and free investigation while deciding a bail plea. It said the Gujarat HC had granted bail without considering the gravity of the offence as the accused seemed to be part of an organised syndicate of I-T officers, businessmen and hawala traders working in tandem which needed to be probed.
