83% car occupants who died in 2021 weren’t wearing seatbelts: Report

Nearly 83% occupants killed in accidents across India in 2021 were not wearing seatbelts, as per road transport ministry. It highlights how two out of every three two-wheeler riders (about 67%) who died in road crashes last year were not wearing helmets. As per WHO, use of seat belts can reduce serious crash-related injuries and deaths by half, while using properly strapped full-face covering helmets can reduce fatal injuries of two-wheeler riders by up to 64% and brain injuries by up to 74%.

Supreme Court to decide on pleas against note ban on January 2, 1st day after winter break

An SC Constitution bench will on January 2, the first day of business after winter break, deliver its judgment on a bunch of petitions which had challenged the Union government’s November 8, 2016 decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes. India's Covid numbers at record low amid rise in global cases

Covid-19 cases have generally been rising around the world since early November but the numbers continue to steadily decline in India. In the week that ended Sunday, the country recorded just 12 deaths - including zero deaths on three of the days - the fewest since daily Covid fatalities started being reported in March 2020. Cases detected in India during the week fell to 1,103, again the lowest weekly number since March 23-29, 2020, when the first nationwide lockdown was imposed.
