Desi qHPV vaccine against cervical cancer to be launched today

India is all set to launch on Thursday its first indigenously developed quadrivalent Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine for prevention of cervical cancer. It has been developed by the Serum Institute of India in partnership with the Department of Biotechnology. Till now, HPV vaccines needed to prevent cervical cancer have been sourced from foreign manufacturers at a cost of Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,500 per dose.

Record rain turns Bengaluru into water world, city put on alert

As per the IMD report on Tuesday, Bengaluru recorded its highest single-day rainfall in August in 24 hours - 162.1mm - since August 27, 1890. The department has issued a yellow alert in Bengaluru Urban district for Wednesday and Thursday too. Four years on, 20% women’s quota fully filled in most IITs

While 100 women joined IIT-Bombay in 2017, the number has touched 271 now. In case of IIT Delhi, the corresponding numbers are 90 in 2017 and 246 as per the most recently released data of 2021 admission statistics. While total students admitted at the IITs have increased from 10,988 to 16,296 between 2017 and 2021, the women population has almost tripled: 995 to 2,990.
